Congratulations to the 2018 Initiate Class!

Convocation Ceremony

More than 1,900 Initiates will be inducted as Fellows of the American College of Surgeons at the Convocation Ceremony held during the Clinical Congress. More than 800 Initiates participated in the 2017 Convocation ceremony and celebration. Join your 2018 Initiate class this year as we recognize and honor your achievement!

The 2018 Convocation Ceremony will take place at 6:00 pm on Sunday, October 21 at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center in Boston, MA. The procession into the ceremony will begin at 5:30 pm. Your family and friends are invited to attend. Attendance is not required, and Fellowship will be conferred in absentia upon all Initiates who are unable to attend the ceremony.

You and your guests are invited to attend the President’s Reception for New Fellows immediately following the Convocation Ceremony. Enjoy drinks and appetizers while you celebrate with family, mingle with your fellow Fellows, and meet College leaders. The President’s Reception for New Fellows will conclude at 9:30 pm. Shuttle bus service will be available following the reception.

The FACS designation may NOT be used after your name in any manner until the Convocation Ceremony has concluded.

 

What's Next

Register for Clinical Congress 

All Initiates who plan to participate in the Convocation Ceremony must register for Clinical Congress. As an Initiate, your registration is FREE. Resources for housing and travel and for international attendees are available.

Pay Your Initiate Fee

Domestic (U.S. and Canada only) Initiates must pay their Initiate Fee of $400 by August 31, whether or not you attend the Convocation Ceremony. To pay your Initiate fee, log into the College website, select Welcome YOUR NAME > Pay Your Dues OR go to My Profile > My Profile Overview, and access Pay Your Dues from the quick links box on the left.

Order Your Convocation Gown

All Initiates who participate in the Convocation Ceremony are required to wear the official ACS regalia.The deadline to pre-order your Convocation gown rental ($66) from Herff Jones has been extended to September 23. (No refunds on gown rentals will be available after September 29, 2018.) Day-of rentals will be available onsite for $80. Contact Tim McClughen for purchase options. All gowns will be available for pick up Sunday, October 21 between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm at the Boston Convention & Exhibition Center.

Update Your Contact Information

You are able to update your online profile by logging into the ACS website, clicking on My Profile, and then My Profile Overview. You will see an edit (pencil) icon in each section. BE SURE TO VERIFY YOUR MAILING ADDRESS BY AUGUST 15 to ensure your Welcome Kit and certificate of Fellowship are mailed to the correct address.

Young Fellow Association

The Young Fellows Association (YFA) offers engagement and leadership opportunities to Fellows 45 years of age and younger. The YFA invites you to attend the Young Fellows Association Program Monday, October 22. The YFA has identified Clinical Congress sessions it thinks are especially relevant to a young surgeon today.

Professional Photography Services

Oscar & Associates will be located next in the College Offices next to Registration throughout the meeting to provide professional photography services. No appointment is necessary. Oscar & Associates can provide Convocation gowns or ACS ties if you choose to wear either. You will be able to review your images immediately. All orders will be shipped to arrive before Christmas. FACS Certificates

All FACS Certificates are printed individually and will be mailed to the 2018 New Fellows by November 30. Please review the Jim Henry, Inc. brochures (Custom and Alpha & Renaissance series) and visit the Jim Henry, Inc. website for official framing options for your FACS Certificate. Jim Henry, Inc. will also be onsite at Clinical Congress in the Boston Convention & Exhibitions Center Exhibit Hall Monday through Wednesday, 9:00 am–4:30 pm.
