Practicalities of Retirement: Details every surgeon should know
July 23, 2026 | 1:00–2:00 pm CT
The American Pediatric Surgery Association (APSA) and the newly developed American College of Surgeons Senior Fellows Society (SFS) are partnering to present a webinar on key administrative and credentialing considerations surgeons should explore when transitioning from active practice, including practice contract, hospital privileges, malpractice coverage, state medical license, and Board certification options.
The session will also provide a comprehensive checklist covering these topics, along with financial planning and health insurance considerations introduced in the first SFS webinar.
In addition, the newly formed ACS SFS provides various opportunities for surgeons to stay connected or get involved in SFS activities.
Surgeons interested in learning about, planning for, or currently transitioning out of practice, or who have recently retired, should consider attending this session.
Presenters:
- Ellen Reynolds, MD, FACS, FAAP, retired Pediatric Surgeon representing APSA
- Tyler Hughes, MD, FACS, Chair of the ACS SFS
- Jessica Schreader, Chief of Staff and Chief Administrative Officer of the American Board of Surgery
Retirement is a major life transition for surgeons across all ages and specialties. While this webinar will highlight considerations unique to pediatric surgeons, the topics discussed are relevant and valuable for surgeons of all disciplines.
Membership in the ACS Senior Fellow Society is composed primarily of senior and retired Fellows of the College but is open to any member who identifies with the mission and is in good standing as defined by the ACS Board of Regents.
