Dr. Timothy Eberlein Is ACS President, Other New Leaders Are Installed

Timothy J. Eberlein, MD, FACS, was installed as the 107th ACS President at Clinical Congress 2026 in Washington, DC. He succeeds Anton N. Sidawy, MD, MPH, FACS.

A surgical oncologist, Dr. Eberlein is the Spencer T. and Ann W. Olin Distinguished Professor, founding director of the Alvin J. Siteman Cancer Center, and senior associate dean for cancer programs at Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri.

Dr. Eberlein has been active in the ACS for more than 30 years, serving on the Board of Governors and Board of Regents, including as Chair of the Board of Regents. He also served as Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of the American College of Surgeons from 2004 to 2025. His presidential theme, “The House of Surgery: Stronger Together,” emphasizes collaboration across surgical specialties to advance patient care and strengthen the profession.

Also at Clinical Congress, trauma surgeon Sharon M. Henry, MD, FACS, and general surgeon Robert P. Sticca, MD, FACS, were installed as First Vice-President and Second Vice-President, respectively.

At the September 29 Annual Business Meeting of Members, urologist and regenerative medicine pioneer Anthony Atala, MD, FACS, was elected President-Elect. Colorectal surgeon Steven D. Wexner, MD, FACS, and oral and maxillofacial surgeon Steven M. Roser, DMD, MD, FACS, were elected First Vice-President-Elect and Second Vice-President-Elect, respectively.
