Surgeons pursuing leadership positions are encouraged to apply for Pathways to Surgical Leadership, a new seminar co-hosted by the ACS Women in Surgery Committee and the Society of Surgical Chairs. Applications are due November 30, 2026.

The program will take place Saturday, April 10, 2027, from 8:00 am to noon ET, at The Westin DC Downtown, alongside the ACS Leadership and Advocacy Summit.

Designed for ACS Associate Fellows and Fellows with at least 5 years of clinical practice, the seminar is intended for surgeons who have applied or are applying for leadership positions in academic and nonacademic settings. Areas of focus include education and training, academic and departmental leadership, and operational and institutional leadership.

Participants will learn from surgical leaders, reflect on their professional development, and discuss different leadership career paths. The program also will explore applying for and securing leadership positions, helping attendees consider how their experience and goals align with their next role.

The registration fee is $200. Accepted participants are responsible for registration, travel, and lodging expenses.

Apply by November 30. Applicants will be asked about their leadership interests, preparation, and career goals. For questions, contact Jessie von Kuster at jvonkuster@facs.org.
