November 3, 2026

In conjunction with the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics at the University of Chicago, Illinois, the ACS is offering fellowships in surgical ethics to interested surgeons.

Since the fellowship began in 2015, participants have included attending surgeons, residents, and surgical fellows from across the country. The program prepares surgeons to become leaders in surgical ethics.

The fellowship requires about 25% of a fellow’s academic time, allowing fellows to continue their current work during the remaining 75% of the time.

The fellowship begins with a 5-week, full-time course in Chicago in July and August 2027.  From September 2027 to June 2028, fellows meet weekly for a structured ethics curriculum,  participate in an ethics consultation service, and complete a research project.

Application materials are due January 15, 2027. For additional information, visit the MacLean Center website.
