Enhanced Recovery: Partnering to Improve Surgical Care and Recovery

Improving Surgical Care and RecoveryThe Improving Surgical Care and Recovery (ISCR) team will host an event on Thursday, July 18, 2019, prior to the beginning of the conference. This will be a two part event.

  • Part 1: Enhanced Recovery Bootcamp
  • Part 2: Enhanced Recovery Beyond Colorectal: Tips and Tricks for Spread and Sustaining

Part 1 will take place in the morning and will provide a broad overview tailored to hospitals newer to enhanced recovery and will include a review of evidence-based perioperative care, and how implementation of an enhanced recovery program can be successfully achieved. Part 2 will take place in the afternoon and will highlight more advanced principles and provide an opportunity for sharing lessons learned and networking.

This event is appropriate for those newly considering an enhanced recovery program, those working through their implementation, and those teams ready to push enhanced recovery programs into new service lines. This session will provide details, examples, and workshop-style discussions to take your center to the next level.


  • Meet and discuss the challenges with experts on controversial topics like bowel preparation and NSAID use amongst others
  • Hear about innovative ways hospitals are capitalizing on their enhanced recovery programs to continue to advance the perioperative quality agenda
  • Experience virtual change management simulation where you can test different implementation strategies and get real time feedback on your approach as well as chance to debrief with implementation experts
  • Network with peers in enhanced recovery
  • Participate in games and win prizes!

Quality Program Socials

Friday, July 19 | 5:00–6:30 pm

Attendees are encouraged to join their fellow program colleagues for an evening of networking, refreshments, and light appetizers. This event is an opportunity to meet fellow peers that are working within the same quality program, as well as network across quality programs. The programs below will have social events.

  • American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (ACS NSQIP)*
  • Children's Surgery Verification (CSV)/ACS NSQIP Pediatric
  • Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality Improvement Program (MBSAQIP)
  • Cancer Quality Programs

* Those interested in ACS NSQIP Adult, Geriatric Surgery Verification, Trauma Programs, and the Surgeon Specific Registry are encouraged to attend the ACS NSQIP Quality Program Social.

All attendees are invited to attend any one of these events.

Welcome Reception at the Quality and Safety ConferenceSaturday, July 20 | 6:30–8:30 pm

This year, the reception will take place at Nationals Park, Washington, DC’s MLB ballpark. Conference attendees will be able to explore a variety of areas of the ballpark while having the opportunity to relax, interact, and enjoy ballpark fare and libations.

Complimentary shuttle transportation will be provided from each of the four conference hotels beginning at approximately 6:00 pm. Detailed shuttle departure locations and further information will be provided at a later date through the conference app.

Abstract Poster Reception and Networking Event

Poster reception at the Quality and Safety ConferenceSunday, July 21 | 5:30–7:30 pm

During the Abstract Poster Reception and Networking Event, attendees will view hundreds of abstract posters, interact with the primary authors, and ask questions about their work. This dedicated time serves as a great networking opportunity.

Attendees will be encouraged to vote for the best poster, and by voting they will be automatically entered into a raffle. The primary author of the poster who receives the most votes and the raffle winner will be announced during the final general session Monday morning, July 22.
