Enhanced Recovery: Transforming Elective and Emergency General Surgery Care Through Evidence and Implementation

Improving Surgical Care and RecoveryThursday, July 23 | 2:00–5:00 pm

The Improving Surgical Care and Recovery (ISCR) team will host an event on Thursday, July 25, 2020, the day prior to the conference. There will be a brief, broad overview tailored to hospitals newer to the enhanced recovery. However, most of the session will focus on lessons learned in ISCR and thinking about how to spread this work to newer populations like emergency general surgery while refining existing colorectal ISCR/ERAS programs with an eye to sustainability.

This event is appropriate for those sites newly considering an enhanced recovery program, those working through their implementation process, and those teams ready to push enhanced recovery programs into new service lines. Regardless of where you are in the enhanced recovery journey, this session will provide details, examples, and workshop-style discussions to take your site to the next level.

The highlights of the day include:

  • Learn creative approaches to standardize emergency general surgery procedures
  • Hear how to improve adherence to evidence and improve efficiency for patients undergoing routine appendectomies and cholecystectomies – did you know that small incremental changes can translate into significant improvements for patients?
  • Review what we, as a collaborative, have learned about emergency colorectal surgery in ISCR and come away with pearls about how to refocus your efforts for improvement
  • Learn tips on how to streamline and hardwire your ISCR/ERAS program so it is the new norm and not a “special project”
  • Test your overall enhanced recovery and ISCR knowledge in a game of Jeopardy and make your hospital proud!
  • Discover networking opportunities
