The American College of Surgeons National Surgical Quality Improvement Program® (ACS NSQIP®) captures and reports 30-day morbidity and mortality outcomes for all major inpatient and outpatient surgical procedures. Outcomes data is captured by a sites surgical clinical reviewer (SCR) using a variety of methods including, medical chart reviews and if necessary, letters or phone calls to patients. To date, ACS NSQIP can document a 95 percent success rate in capturing 30-day outcomes on all cases in the program database. All data is continuously submitted via the website.
Surgical Procedure Inclusion/Exclusion Criteria
Included Cases
ACS NSQIP includes all major cases as determined by Current Procedural Terminology (CPT®) code. ACS NSQIP has developed a comprehensive CPT code inclusion list. This list is updated annually as new codes become available.
Excluded Cases
- Patients under the age of 18 years.
- More than 3 inguinal herniorrhaphies in an 8-day period.
- More than 3 breast lumpectomies in an 8-day period.
- More than 3 laparoscopic cholecystectomies in an 8-day period.
- If the site is collecting Urology cases, more than 3 TURPs +/ or TURBTs in an 8-day period.
