Lessons Learned in the Pursuit of Quality Surgical Health Care is a compendium of highlights from a series of American College of Surgeons (ACS) Surgical Health Care Quality Forums that convened around the country as part of the “Inspiring Quality” campaign. The Forums created a national dialogue about surgical quality and patient safety.
Forum panels were composed of surgeons, hospital administrators, policymakers, nonsurgeon members of the clinical team, health policy analysts, and other stakeholders. Throughout the campaign, one message we heard loud and clear, and especially from policymakers, was the desire for surgeon leadership to help “inspire quality” health care—at the level of our hospitals, our communities, our states, and our nation.
