The ACS Resident and Associate Society (RAS) has developed the Grand Rounds Webinar Series for young surgeons who are starting their practice in private or academic surgical medicine. AMA Steps Forward Professional Wellness Online Modules
These modules developed by the American Medical Association (AMA) on preventing burnout offer physicians an opportunity to assess burnout as well as adopt wellness approaches in their practices.
AMA Wire® Articles on Physician Wellness
The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) compiled resources that promote a culture of physician well-being and provide support in the case of burnout, depression, or suicide.
The Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) notes that well-being in academic medicine has emerged as a critical issue facing faculty, physicians, researchers, residents, and students, and have developed resources to help explain and address the challenges.
The National Academy of Medicine (NAM) launched the Action Collaborative on Clinician Well-Being and Resilience, a network of more than 50 organizations committed to reversing trends in clinician burnout. The Collaborative has three goals:
The Board of Governors Physician Competency and Health Workgroup created the initial list of well-being resources for surgeons, and this list is updated regularly. The Workgroup’s efforts to address issues related to physical and mental wellness for Fellows as well as surgical competency, credentialing, and practice within expected community standards is appreciated.
