Apply for Medical Director of Cancer Programs Position by April 21

The ACS is now accepting applications from experienced oncologic surgeons for the position of Medical Director of ACS Cancer Programs. Applications are due Friday, April 21.

The Medical Director will provide strategic, scientific, clinical, and operational oversight and leadership for the College’s seven Cancer Programs:

  • Commission on Cancer
  • American Joint Committee on Cancer
  • National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers
  • National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer
  • National Cancer Database
  • Clinical Research Program
  • Cancer Surgery Standards Program

The Medical Director—who must be an ACS Fellow—is expected to understand the broader national cancer community and the role of the programs in the national landscape, while at the same time understand and align with the strengths and needs of the ACS, including but not limited to the needs of general and specialty surgeon members of the ACS.

Other responsibilities include supporting individual program needs, as well as strategic integration with other ACS quality improvement programs, developing goals, objectives, and accountability of staff and volunteers to ensure that Cancer Programs meet their objectives. The Medical Director also will oversee ACS cancer committees, staff, and finances/administration, along with community involvement within and outside of the ACS.
