In 2025, the ACS Foundation—the philanthropic arm of the College that supports its initiatives to improve surgical care for better patient outcomes—celebrates its 20th anniversary and a year of impressive growth, which is described in the 2024–2025 Foundation Annual Report.
As H. Randolph Bailey, MD, FACS, Chair of the ACS Foundation, and Patricia L. Turner, MD, FACS, ACS Foundation President and ACS Executive Director and CEO, note in their introductory messages, the investments of many individuals are maintaining and creating innumerable opportunities for surgeons to grow in their careers.
The impact is evident in works of two Foundation-funded ACS awardees: Tammy L. Kindel, MD, PhD, FACS, FASMBS, recipient of the 2020–2025 George H. A. Clowes Jr., MD, FACS, Award; and Jacqueline S. Jeruss, MD, PhD, FACS, a recipient of both the Resident Research Scholarship and the Joan L. and Julius H. Jacobson II Promising Investigator Award.
Drs. Kindel and Jeruss are advancing research and care in heart function and cancer care, respectively, through the largesse of many individual donors—including generous surgeons such as Pon Satitpunwaycha, MD, FACS, whose $2 million individual gift is the largest individual contribution ever received by the Foundation.
This contribution, alongside the ongoing funds and activities from many others, including 2024 Distinguished Philanthropist Raghuvir Gelot, MD, FACS, who is profiled in the report, will support practice-changing opportunities for years to come.
