ACS Clinical Scholars in Residence Applications Due in October

October 4, 2022

Do you want to play a part in advancing the quality improvement initiatives of the ACS and being a leader in research projects that include surgical outcomes research, health services research, healthcare policy, and diversity, equity, and inclusion? Then apply to be an ACS Clinical Scholar in Residence. The ACS is accepting applications through October 31, 2022, for this 2-year, onsite fellowship. Five clinical scholar positions are available for July 1, 2023–June 30, 2025, with a focus is cancer, trauma, and other areas of surgery.

The primary objective of the program will be to address issues in patient safety, healthcare quality, and health policy that complement the priorities of the ACS, with the goal of preparing a surgical resident for a career in academic surgery. The program includes the opportunity to earn a Master of Science in Clinical Investigation (MSCI), Health Services and Outcomes Research, or Healthcare Quality and Patient Safety through Northwestern University’s Schools of Medicine, Public Health, and Institute for Healthcare Studies. In addition, the scholar will be able to participate in resident educational activities through Northwestern University’s Department of Surgery.

The scholars also will interact and be mentored by various surgeons affiliated with the ACS and the Division of Research and Optimal Patient Care from across the country. As mentorship is one of the most important aspects of the fellowship, having guidance from multiple individuals from varied backgrounds will provide the valuable opportunity for success.
