At Clinical Congress 2026, September 26–29 in Washington, DC, the inaugural Best of Grand Rounds series features three surgeons who were nominated by their peers and selected for delivering outstanding Grand Rounds presentations over the past year.

These impactful presentations will inspire attendees and introduce innovative and valuable surgical techniques and represent how the ACS seeks to include conference sessions and topics that spoke to them, personally and professionally.

This year’s sessions include the following:

  • Leading Beyond the Bedside: The Power of Personal Narratives in Medicine
Presented by Joseph V. Sakran, MD, MPH, MPA, FACS, executive vice-chair of surgery and director of clinical operations at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland
  • Antifragility: The New Architecture of Healing: Transforming Despair into Hope Through Surgical Leadership and Social Innovation
Presented by Edward M. Barksdale Jr., MD, FACS, FAAP, chief surgical officer, Chicagoland Children's Health Alliance, Illinois, and ACS Second Vice-President
  • Surgery in Space
Presented by Tovy H. Kamine, MD, MBA, FACS, FAsMA, general surgeon at Baystate Trauma and Acute Care Surgery in Springfield, Massachusetts
