Share Multilingual Patient Brochures on Cholecystectomy, Appendectomy, and More

As a surgeon, what resources do you use to inform your patients about their surgery? While multiple tools are available, the ACS Patient Education Brochure series supports informed consent and risk-reduction strategies that have been highly valued by patients.

Each brochure outlines the corresponding procedure, diagnoses/reasons to have the procedure, and reviews risks and benefits, including the most common risks per the ACS Risk Calculator, along with strategies for complication prevention.

The Patient Education Brochure series covers the following common topics and procedures in the noted languages:

  • Appendectomy (English, Spanish, Italian)
  • Cholecystectomy (English, Spanish, Italian)
  • Colectomy (English, Spanish, Italian)
  • Colonoscopy (English, Spanish, Italian)
  • Inguinal/Femoral Hernia – Adult (English, Spanish, Italian)
  • Inguinal Hernia – Pediatric
  • Umbilical Hernia – Adult (English, Spanish, Italian)
  • Umbilical Hernia – Pediatric

Of patients using the brochures, 91% reported that they felt the brochures were more helpful than materials they received in the past, 88% said they felt better prepared to participate in their care, and 87% reported they felt more confident talking with their surgeon.
