Although portal vein thrombosis (PVT) is well-characterized in the pretransplant setting, de novo PVT after liver transplantation (LT) remains poorly defined, with little known about its incidence, timing patterns, or impact on long-term outcomes in adult deceased-donor LT. Listen to Drs. Omar Alomar and Natnael Doilicho discuss their recent JACS article on this topic, which found that de novo PVT can be a significant driver of postoperative morbidity, mortality, and organ rejection, and that closer surveillance and study are needed for this underrecognized complication.
