Women in Surgery Committee Mentorship Program for Women Surgeons

Mentoring Program
Mentoring Program

The American College of Surgeons (ACS) Women in Surgery Committee offers a year-long Mentorship Program for women surgeons with less than 5 years in practice. The program focuses on offering mentorship in a variety of areas including career development, research goals, work-life balance, practice development, transition to practice, and leadership development. Mentees are paired with the best possible mentor who is an established female Fellow of the College. The mentorship program is 1-year in duration, beginning in September/October each year.

The WiSC Mentorship Program opens its application process in early Spring of each year for mentees and mentors. Applicants for mentorship must be an ACS Fellow or Associate Fellow, or currently in the process of applying for ACS Fellowship with less than 5 years of practice. Mentor applicants must be a female Fellow of the College with 10+ years in practice, experience and knowledge in various areas of mentorship, and committed to meeting 1:1 with a mentee for 1-year.

The Program requires a commitment to the following:

  • Meet on a regular basis for 1:1 mentorship sessions (as agreed upon between mentor-mentee)
  • Attend the Program kickoff event
  • Attend 2 virtual gatherings with entire cohort (4 offered throughout the year)

Application Process

Applications for 2022–2023 cohort are now open. Deadline to apply is Wednesday, June 1.
