Agenda
Program Objectives

The Military Health System (MHS) Surgical Quality Consortium (SQC) Meeting is intended to support the ongoing development and member needs of the MHS SQC. The SQC was chartered to provide guidance and governance on issues related to surgical quality and serves as an advocating body over the Department of Defense National Surgical Quality Improvement Project (DOD-NSQIP) collaborative to include Pediatric NSQIP.

Topics cover the following major key areas:

  • Overview of enterprise-wide surgical quality efforts
  • Developing a surgical quality program within a facility
  • Ongoing training in the use of NSQIP
  • Addressing surgical quality topics such as ambulatory, bariatric, and pediatric surgery
  • Addressing universal surgical quality topics, such as prevention of sentinel events
  • Developing a future direction for the SQC, including a possible MHS-wide quality project

Expected deliverables:

  • Functional sustainment of the SQC
  • Informing and supporting development of MHS-wide surgical quality projects consistent with a quality collaborative
  • Expanding the network of surgical quality experts within the MHS and increasing shared knowledge through discussions of best practices
  • Continued assessment of needs of the membership to inform future meetings
