Medical Student Member

Are you exploring a career in surgery? As a medical student member, you can access learning resources such as the Medical Student Program at Clinical Congress, grow your network through monthly hangout sessions, and use key career decision-making tools to support your path to residency.

Resident Member

As a trainee in a surgical residency and fellowship programs, you can grow as a surgeon through educational courses and resident-focused programs at the Clinical Congress, Quality and Safety Conference, and Leadership and Advocacy Summit; apply for scholarship opportunities and leadership liaison roles to strengthen your professional development; and connect with residents from around the world on projects related to advocacy, education, research, membership, and global health.

Associate Fellow

After you complete all surgical training and fellowships, start your independent practice as an Associate Fellow. Associate Fellow membership is open to board-certified surgeons in practice for less than one year as a surgeon practicing in the US or Canada or three years as a surgeon practicing in other countries.

Fellow (FACS)

After completing 1 year of independent practice as a board-certified surgeon in the US or Canada or 3 years of independent practice as a board-certified surgeon internationally, apply to be a FACS, the most recognized credential in surgery. As a Fellow member, you can become involved through hundreds of opportunities to further your career and impact the future of surgery, keep current with discounted or free lifelong learning programs, take advantage of key tools and resources across surgical disciplines that support your practice’s management and your personal fulfillment, and have a role in advocating for surgery and your patients and share in the benefits of a network committed to excellence

Retired and Senior Fellows

Continue your legacy and stay engaged with the ACS community in retirement. As a Retired or Senior Fellow, you’ll retain access to key resources, educational content, and the ACS community without the need for annual dues.

To transition your membership status to a Retired Fellow, simply contact our Member Services team at dues@facs.org or 312-202-5499. The transition to Senior Fellow happens automatically the year the Fellow turns 71 years old. If you have any questions about transition to a Senior Fellow, please contact us at dues@facs.org
