MyCME Frequently Asked Questions

When can I expect to see my credits inside MyCME after a live event?

Thank you for attending an ACS-sponsored event. Your MyCME record will be updated with your earned credit 30-45 days post the day of the event.

How do I add CME Credits to the MyCME records for courses I took outside of the ACS?

Select Add CME to log CME credits earned through other providers. Enter the information requested, upload the corresponding documentation (optional), and click the Save button at the bottom of the page. Select Add CME to begin a new entry. Pro Tip: To enter aggregated CME totals for like activities, include the date range in the Program name field (i.e., Grand Rounds (January 1, 2020, through December 31, 2021), and enter the most recent date as the Date Awarded.

What is the difference between CME Credit and Self-Assessment Credit?

CME Credit is achieved by attending the event, and completing requirements proving your attendance, many times a course or meeting evaluation. Self-Assessment Credit is earned by passing a post-test which reflects your newly found acumen for the course.

Why did I receive a Certificate of Completions instead of a CME Certificate for the activity I completed?

Certificates of Completion are for attendees that registered for an event as a Resident or other healthcare professional. Please contact Member Services if your ACS profile has not been updated since residency.

How do I transmit CME credit to the American Board of Surgery?

The American College of Surgeons (ACS) does not automatically transfer CME data to the American Board of Surgery (ABS). If you would like to electronically transmit your CME data from the ACS to the ABS, use the ACS MyCME Portal. You will need your ACS ID log-in. This will be your membership number or the ACS ID you received when you created your ACS account. If you need assistance with the ACS ID contact Log-in Help.

Step-by-Step Instructions to Access MyCME and Transmit Your CME Data

  1. Log into MyCME.
  2. Once logged in, you will see your name at the top right of the page.
  3. Select Claim Credit
  4. Select the “Send CME Data” tab.
  5. Select the “Specialty Board” option.
  6. From the recipient drop-menu, select American Board of Surgery.
  7. Select “I Agree.”
  8. Enter your ABS ID.
  9. Enter your month and day of birth.
  10. Confirm that your email address is correct.
  11. Enter the desired start and end dates for your CME data range and click “Get Select Dates.”
  12. Review the transcript data to confirm it is correct.
  13. Once satisfied with the “Send to ABS” criteria, click the “Yes” button.

After your CME credits are sent, you will see a confirmation page. After 24 hours, you can log into your ABS account to confirm the credits are in your ABS CME Repository.

What if it is not an ACS-accredited activity?

If you participate in an activity that was not accredited by the ACS, you are more than welcome to keep track of those activities inside your MyCME portal as you have done in past. However, we cannot transmit these data to the board. It is recommended the attendee contact the host of the CME activity that was accredited by an external provider to receive information for how to transmit the CME Data. The host of the CME activity may have most likely collaborated with ACCME and the applicable boards to arrange for those data to be transmitted automatically. The host for the activity will most likely know if the data will be automatically sent on your behalf from the board. So, you will not have to do anything else. If you would like additional information regarding ABS and how they will receive credits for courses not accredited by the ACS, please email cc@absurgery.org.
