Clinical Congress 2026 attendees, whether they participated in person or virtually, can claim continuing medical education (CME) credits and earn credit toward certain content, compliance, and site survey regulatory requirements.
The ACS designated the In-Person (Live and On-Demand) Clinical Congress for a maximum of 185.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ and the Virtual (On-Demand) Clinical Congress for a maximum of 141.0 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™.
Attendees can continue viewing eligible recorded sessions through the Meeting Platform and claim applicable CME credit. The deadline to claim credit is February 22, 2027. Residents and allied health professionals are eligible for a Certificate of Completion.
Credit to Address Regulatory Mandates
Certain state licensing boards have established specific content requirements for CME credit. State requirements may include Behavioral Health (BH), Cultural Competency (CC), End-of-Life Care (EoL), Ethics (E), Opioid/Pain Management (OPM), Palliative Care (PA), Patient Safety (PtS), and Risk Management (RM).
Clinical Congress sessions that may address state-specific content are designated as Credit to Address Regulatory Mandates using the abbreviations listed above. When claiming CME credit for these sessions, attendees can elect to include Credit to Address Regulatory Mandates, which will be documented as part of their Clinical Congress transcript.
Attendees should check with their state medical boards to verify that the content meets specific requirements.
Self-Assessment Credit
Self-assessment credit is available for Didactic and Skills Courses and requires successful completion of a post-test. Earning self-assessment credit is voluntary and is not required to claim CME credit.
Self-assessment credit counts toward American Board of Surgery (ABS) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Part 2. For ABS Diplomates, the MOC Part 2 requirement applies to those who have not yet completed the first ABS Continuous Certification Program Assessment Exam.
The deadline to earn self-assessment credit is February 22, 2027.
Credit to Address ACS Accreditation/Verification Requirements
Institutions accredited or verified by the ACS may require staff to earn credit to meet compliance and site survey requirements in applicable content areas, including Bariatric Surgery (MBS), Breast (NAPBC), Cancer (C), Children’s Surgery (CSV), Emergency General Surgery (EGS), Geriatric (GER), Rectal Cancer (NAPRC), Quality (Q), Trauma (T), and Vascular (V).
Clinical Congress sessions that include this content are designated as Credit to Address ACS Accreditation/Verification Requirements. When claiming CME credit for these sessions, attendees can elect to include the applicable credit, which will be documented as part of their CME Certificate and Clinical Congress transcript.

How Do I Know What CME I Need?
The ACS has compiled state-specific CME requirements for state licensing boards, along with CME requirements for specialty boards such as the American Board of Medical Specialties and American Osteopathic Association boards, and ACS Accreditation/Verification programs. Because CME requirements are subject to change, attendees should confirm current requirements with the appropriate organization.
