American College Of Surgeons - Inspiring Quality: Highest Standards, Better Outcomes

Cancer Surgery Standards Program

The Cancer Surgery Standards Program (CSSP) has been developed to improve the quality of surgical care provided to people with cancer.

The CSSP aims to improve care by setting evidence-based standards for the technical conduct of oncologic surgery and educating surgeons to help them meet those standards. To support implementation and adherence, the CSSP builds and disseminates tools, including synoptic operative report templates and the associated electronic infrastructure.

Cancer Sessions

The 2020 ACS Quality and Safety Conference VIRTUAL was held August 21–24. If you missed it, the sessions and opportunity to collect continuing education credits are still available. All sessions will remain online and available for viewing through October 31, accessible on the conference website.

SOR Tools Update

We are pleased to report that we are making steady progress on the production of synoptic operative reports (SORs), and we anticipate that these tools will be ready for dissemination and implementation by January 2021. The content of the reports has been well vetted by diverse focus groups, the vendor for designing and building the digital tools has been selected, the kick-off phase has been completed, and pilot sites have been selected.
