Congratulations, New Fellows

On behalf of the leadership and more than 82,000 members of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), congratulations to the Initiates inducted as Fellows. Only a fellow surgeon will understand the commitment you have made to becoming a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. This is a momentous occasion. On Sunday, October 4, the ACS welcomed the 2020 Initiates into the College at the Convocation ceremony.

The class of 2020 includes 2,125 surgeons of which 1,357 are from the U.S. and Canada; 763 are from 75 countries from around the world; and 585 are female surgeons.

ConvocationSunday, October 4 | 6:00–8:00 pm (CDT)

The Convocation conferred Fellowship in the American College of Surgeons (FACS) upon those surgeons who have successfully met ACS requirements to provide optimal care to the surgical patient. This year’s event will be a virtual ceremony.

The Convocation also included recognition of our new Honorary Fellows, presentation of the ACS Distinguished Service Award and other honors, the installation of the ACS Officers, and the Presidential Address by our 101st President, J. Wayne Meredith, MD, FACS, MCCM, of Winston-Salem, NC.

The first Convocation was held on November 13, 1913, at the Congress Hotel in Chicago, IL. The inaugural class of 1,059 surgeons hailed from the U.S. and Canada and included six female surgeons.
