Pennsylvania Representative Visits Trauma Center at Reading Hospital

US Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D, PA-6) recently visited Reading Hospital in West Reading, PA, as part of the ACS Where Seconds Matter campaign—a national advocacy effort inviting members of Congress to visit trauma centers in their home states to highlight the critical role of trauma care and advocate for policies that strengthen trauma systems, workforce, and emergency preparedness.

During Rep. Houlahan’s visit, recent trauma cases were highlighted, including firearm-related injuries, a patient whose foot was crushed by the limb of a tree he was cutting down, and two older patients with injuries related to falls, among others.

Additionally, Congresswoman Houlahan and her staff also witnessed an urgent helicopter transport of a young patient, allowing them to see the intricate processes involved in such time critical care.

Specific policy areas that were highlighted to Rep. Houlahan during the visit were the importance Mission Zero and the Hospital Readiness Program, as well as the need for  a National Trauma Emergency Preparedness System (NTEPS), and for funding the CDC Injury Center.

Rep. Houlahan’s visit is among multiple others planned around the country during the August Congressional recess.
