Where Seconds Matter State Highlights

Elected officials from around the United States are visiting trauma centers to learn about the critical role of trauma care, system challenges, and policies that can strengthen trauma systems, workforce, and emergency preparedness.

These visits, part of the ACS Where Seconds Matter campaign, typically highlight the importance of Mission Zero and the Hospital Readiness Program, as well as the need for a National Trauma Emergency Preparedness System (NTEPS) and funding the CDC Injury Center.

Senator Mark Kelly’s Staff Tours Trauma Center at Banner University Medical Center Tucson

Senator Mark Kelly’s staff visited Banner University Medical Center in Tucson, AZ. During the visit, the tour highlighted the hospital's commitment to quality, which is demonstrated by its participation in multiple ACS Quality Programs, including its Level I Trauma Center and Level II Pediatric Trauma Center verifications.

California Representative Visits Trauma Center at UC Irvine Medical Center 

US Rep. Lou Correa (D, CA-46) recently visited UC Irvine Medical Center in Orange, CA. During Rep. Correa’s visit, he and his staff received a guided tour of the trauma bay and met with the hospital’s renowned burn, trauma, and critical care team, gaining firsthand insight into the complexities of providing life-saving care.

Pennsylvania Representative Visits Trauma Center at Reading Hospital

US Rep. Chrissy Houlahan (D, PA-6) visited Reading Hospital in West Reading, PA. During Rep. Houlahan’s visit, recent trauma cases were highlighted, including firearm-related injuries, a patient whose foot was crushed by the limb of a tree he was cutting down, and two older patients with injuries related to falls, among others. Additionally, Congresswoman Houlahan and her staff also witnessed an urgent helicopter transport of a young patient, allowing them to see the intricate processes involved in such time critical care.
