Initial Applicants for Accreditation

New centers (not currently participating in the MBSAQIP) seeking status as a MBSAQIP Accredited Center can apply using the MBSAQIP Application Portal link above. It is required that all new centers submit a pre-application before gaining access to the application. Click “Register a New Center” within the MBSAQIP Application Portal to access the pre-application.

Please note that your center must meet all standards and intend to actively pursue accreditation for the designation level sought prior to submitting a pre-application.

Existing MBSAQIP Centers

MBSAQIP Accredited Centers are required to submit a renewal application every three years to maintain accredited status.

Here is a brief overview of the accreditation process for reaccrediting centers:

Application

The Primary Contact at your center has been issued a username and password for the MBSAQIP Application Portal. Your center’s renewal application will be made available six (6) months prior to your center’s expiration date and is due four (4) months prior. A renewal notice will also be sent via e-mail to the Primary Contact as a reminder with further details regarding the application process.

*This is a tentative date range assuming that all application materials are received on time per the schedule above. The actual date of the site visit will be determined following submission and review of your completed renewal application..

Upon submission of the application, your center will be assigned to a MBSAQIP Program Coordinator, who will be your primary point of contact for the duration of the application process.

International Data Collection Center Applicants

Participation as a Data Collection Center is now available to International Centers.

Please note that participation as a MBSAQIP Data Collection Center is NOT available to centers within the United States and Canada.

Data Collection Centers can apply using the MBSAQIP Application Portal. Click “Register a New Center” within the MBSAQIP Application Portal to access the pre-application. No additional application materials beyond the pre-application are required for centers that are only seeking Data Collection participation. The bariatric surgeon leader (MBS Director) is required to view the MBSAQIP Data Collection Webinar prior to applying. All staff or hospital administrators who will be integral to the successful implementation of a Data Collection program are encouraged, although not required, to view the webinar as well.
