American College Of Surgeons - Inspiring Quality: Highest Standards, Better Outcomes

Important Information for Our Cancer Accreditation Programs

Dear Cancer Program Colleagues,

The leadership and staff of the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer, National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers, and the National Accreditation Program for Rectal Cancer are committed to the health and safety of our participating accredited program staff, health care professionals, physicians, and their patients.

We understand that some facility events, meetings, and initiatives may need to be postponed or canceled due to COVID-19. Whether to move forward with events, meetings, or initiatives is left to the discretion of each facility. We urge cancer programs to engage your leadership and program teams in decision making and to follow the guidance of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and your local public health agencies. The safety and wellness of staff and patients should be top priority.

We also anticipate there will be changes in patient care, workflow, and cancellation/postponements due to COVID-19. We want to reassure you that changes in patient care and the postponement or cancellation of meetings due to COVID-19 will not impact your accreditation status. Please keep documentation of these occurrences so that it can be referenced by the site reviewer at your next site visit.

Cancer Programs staff here at the American College of Surgeons are available to assist you and answer any questions. Please contact us at Thank you.
