The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) has released a new Age Friendly Hospital Measure to improve the care and outcomes of older adult patients. Hospitals will be required to comply with the new measure beginning in January 2025.
The American College of Surgeons championed this measure to optimize the care and outcomes of geriatric patients. The efforts are largely informed by our Geriatric Surgery Verification Program (GSV), which has helped hospitals reduce postoperative delirium-related complications, cut readmission costs, and reduce the average length of a patient’s stay—generating significant cost savings while helping patients achieve their care goals.
The ACS hosted a 45-minute webinar to explain the new CMS Age Friendly Measure and answer questions about how the GSV program can help hospitals prepare to meet this new regulatory requirement beginning in January 2025.
