Biography

Dr. Hagos Biluts was born on 11 September 1966 in Mekelle, Ethiopia. After attending his elementary, Junior secondary and high school education at the Addisu Mekelle (Ilallla) elementary school, Melestegna Junior secondary school and Atse- Yohannes comprehensive secondary school respectively, he completed his MD training at the Gondar College of Medical Science (GCSM), Addis Ababa University in 1990. He then served at Bedessa health center, Kamaboker refugee and returnee camp hospital, Asebe Teffera (Chiro) hospital as a general practitioner for 5 years. In January 1996, he joined the AAU, Department of Surgery to start his postgraduate training in General Surgery and qualified as specialist in General Surgery in 2000. He then served national service at Ethio-Eritrean war front hospital, Pawe hospital (Benshangul Gumuz regional state) as a general Surgeon for 1 and ½ years. He joined Department of Surgery, Faculty of Medicine, Addis Ababa University in Sep 2001 as a general Surgeon, in Sept 2003 appointed as assistant professor of Surgery, while serving at the department he also served at Gimbi Seventh Adventist Hospital (one Month) as a General surgeon in 2005, Jimma University (2 months) as a surgeon and Lecturer in 2005. He studied in Cape Town, South Africa a one-year program in Research ethics in 2007 and awarded Post Graduate diploma in International research Ethics in 2008. He then completed his sub-specialty training in Neurosurgery in 2010; he was also trained in Paediatric Neuroendoscopic surgery, Certificate awarded for successful completion of 3 months course, in 2011 at Cure Children’s hospital of Uganda, Mbale, he also received his fellowship in General Surgery from the College of Surgeons of East Central and Southern Africa in 2012. And was promoted to the level of an associate professor of surgery in July 2013.Full professor in Neurosurgery in July 30, 2021. Dr Hagos has served the University and the nation at different levels.
