Dr. Juan Carlos Salamea obtained his MD and completed residency in general and laparoscopic surgery (2006) at the University of Cuenca, Ecuador. Completed a fellowship in trauma and acute care surgery (2012) at the University del Valle, Cali, Colombia. Dr. Salamea was the first International Observer for the Panamerican Trauma Society Program. He was the medical director of PHTLT for Ecuador until 2012. Now, he is a surgery professor at the University of Azuay and the Hospital Universitario del Río, Cuenca, Ecuador. Medical Coordinator in the “Trauma and Emergency System” Pilot Project for the South of Ecuador, Ministry of Health. Principal Investigator of "Telehealth and Telemedicine for the Management of Trauma". Active Member of the Ecuadorian Society of Surgery (2009) currently National President (2016-2017), Active Member of the Panamerican Trauma Society (2008), Active Member of the Ecuadorian Society of Laparoscopic Surgery (2008). Mentor and founder of the Trauma and Emergency League in Ecuador. Also deeply involved in developing the trauma and emergency system in Ecuador working as a coordinator and surgeon in the first trauma and acute care regional center.
