Biography

Dr. Clavijo-Alvarez was born in Colombia (South America). After finishing medical school at the Military University (1995), he practiced as a PCP on a navy base in one of the jungles of his country. He participated with multiple military missions helping people in surrounding under-served areas. Dr. Clavijo-Alvarez left his country in 1998, and went to Spain for 3 years. After finishing his PhD at the “Universidad Autonoma de Madrid”, he decided to experience the “American Dream”. He came to the U.S. and completed an English course for 4 months. With determination, he began a job doing research at Harvard University in the department of “Trauma and Critical Care”. One year later he moved to Pittsburgh and performed research with the Department of Surgery (2001), and later with the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh (2003). During these years, he applied advanced concepts in biotechnology and stem cells for regenerative medicine. In 2005, he started his training in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Pittsburgh (one of the top three programs in the U.S. and second largest residency program in the country). In 2008, he took a sabbatical year and finished a Masters in Public Health (MPH). This was the link that allowed him to translate the complexity of stem cell research into the clinical arena. During his training, he has had the privilege to train under the supervision of world-renowned surgeons in cosmetic surgery, post-bariatric surgery, breast surgery, and craniofacial surgery. Pittsburgh ‘s Best Reviewed Plastic Surgeon After his graduation, Dr. Clavijo-Alvarez joined a prestigious plastic surgery group east of Pittsburgh. Since the very beginning it became clear that patient care was the key to make the difference in plastic and cosmetic surgery patient care. Multiple patients reflected their satisfaction by writing kind and detail reviews of their experience with Dr. Clavijo-Alvarez.
