Prof. Morelli received his M.D. degree cum laude from Pisa University, in 1999. Beside a formal General Surgery Residency at University of Pisa, he completed a fellowship at the same University in surgical interventional ultrasound. After working in the field of organ transplantation from 2004 to 2007 his interest has shifted more in the field of surgical oncology, new technologies and minimally invasive surgery. In 2009, he became Vice-Head and referent of Minimally Invasive, Laparoscopic and Robotic Surgery at General Surgery Unit directed by Prof. Franco Mosca, Full Professor at University of Pisa, Tuscany (Italy). In 2014, he became Fellow of American College of Surgeons (ACS) and in 2018 Fellow of American Society of Colon and Rectal Surgeons (ASCRS). In 2015, he become Associate Professor of Surgery at University of Pisa, and in 2018 he obtained the National Scientific Qualification as Full Professor of Surgery. In 2020 he became surgical Director of EndoCas (www.endocas.org), the only Italian simulation center accredited by ACS, and President of Arpa Foundation (www.fondazionearpa.it). His surgical experience consists of more than 4000 surgical procedures as first operator including major oncologic surgery (pancreatectomies, hepatic resections, multi-visceral resections), organ procurement for transplants (liver, pancreas and kidney), advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery with particular interest for colorectal, HBP, upper GI and urologic (adrenal and kidney’s) surgery. Since 2001 he has performed over 14.000 diagnostic ultrasound and over 1700 ultrasound guided interventional procedures (percutaneous drainages, tumor ablation, biopsies). Since 1999, he has written more than 400 scientific publications on several topics such as transplants, surgical oncology, interventional ultrasound, simulation, laparoscopic and robotic surgery.
