Doran Mix is an Associate Professor of Vascular Surgery at the University of Rochester, with dual appointments as an associate professor of biomedical engineering at the University of Rochester and Rochester Institute of Technology. As the Director of the Cardiovascular Engineering Lab (CVEL) his work focuses on ultrasound and MRI elastographic techniques to measure biomechanical properties of aortic tissue to predict aneurysmal degeneration. His lab has received $1M in grant funding, including an NIH KL2 Award and the Eastern Vascular Society Seed Grant. He has authored 65 peer-reviewed publications and 2 book chapters, holds a U.S. patent for a Fenestrated Endograft, and reviews multiple surgical and engineering journals. As the Director of the Aortic Center, he has performed numerous complex open and physician-modified endovascular aortic surgeries for thoracoabdominal aneurysms, with outcomes comparable to those of national experts. He has been recognized for his mentoring excellence with numerous resident and student teaching awards.
