Dr Christine Castater is a "non-traditional" student who decided to pursue medicine after being a victim of violence. She finished her BA, MD, and MBA all at the University of Connecticut before completing General Surgery Residency at UCSF East Bay, and Acute Care Surgery and Surgical Critical Care Fellowship at Emory University. She is Vice Chair of Access, Engagement, and Justice, Assistant Professor of Surgery, Assistant Clerkship Director, and Trauma Surgery Site Director all at Morehouse School of Medicine (MSM) Department of Surgery. She is also a trauma and critical care surgeon, and the Medical Director for the Acute Care Surgery Wards all at Grady Memorial Hospital (GMH). Since Being at Morehouse, she has won the James Densler Surgical Society Faculty Teaching Award, Morehouse School of Medicine Dept of Surgery Above and Beyond Resident Award, The Morehouse School of Medicine Teaching Competition, and been inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Medical Honors Society. At Morehouse she serves on the admissions committee, is the Secretary for the Faculty Assembly Executive Council, is on the curriculum redesign committee working to integrate clinical cases throughout the preclinical years, and is the faculty advisor for the inaugural Morehouse School of Medicine Association of Women Surgeons Chapter. She is active on many national committees devoted to violence prevention, inclusive excellence, and intimate partner violence. She has spoken multiple times on disparities in trauma, intimate partner violence, and post traumatic stress disorder as well as on her path from trauma thriver to trauma surgeon.
