Dr. Shadi Al-Bahri received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Toronto and his medical degree from Saba University School of Medicine. He then completed a six-year general surgery residency at MedStar Union Memorial Hospital, affiliated with the Johns Hopkins University and the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore, Maryland. During his training, he was very active in both his clinical and academic pursuits, with over 20 posters, podium presentations and publications in multiple surgical conventions. He completed a one-year fellowship at the University of South Florida in Tampa, FL focusing on Bariatric, Robotic and Laparoscopic Surgery. He received board certification from the American Board of Surgery. He received numerous awards for his research and academic achievements over the years, with prior involvement with in surgical societies as a committee member in Bariatric Surgery and Endoscopic surgery for the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, and is the Young Physician representative of the International College of Surgeons to the American Medical Association. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, and the American Society of Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons where he continues to be active and has presents his research annually. He currently serves as the Associate Program Director of the General Surgery residency program at Tawam Hospital - Johns Hopkins International in the United Arab Emirates, where he also lectures as adjunct faculty with the UAE University College of Medicine as an Assistant Professor. His surgical focus is on Laparoscopic intestinal surgery, with particular interest in Bariatric surgery and Hernia surgery. He also performs laparoscopic and open intestinal, gallbladder and colon surgery as well as foregut surgery for reflux disease.
