Biography

Dr. Nimmi Kapoor is a surgeon with fellowship training in breast cancer and diseases of the thyroid. Dr. Kapoor graduated summa cum laude and with honors in research from UCLA and went to medical school at Weill Cornell Medical College. There she also graduated with honors in research, and she received the honored distinction of membership to Alpha Omega Alpha. She completed seven years of general surgery training and a research fellowship at New York Presbyterian Hospital-Cornell and while there received advanced Breast Surgical Oncology training and Head and Neck training at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center. She completed an SSO-approved Breast Fellowship at John Wayne Cancer Institute and Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Southern California. She is currently working at UCLA. Dr. Kapoor’s research interests have included sentinel lymph node biopsy, nipple-sparing mastectomy, and breast density. She is lead author of numerous peer-reviewed manuscripts, has published several book chapters, and has written a patent for molecular profiling of thyroid cancers. She is a member of SWOG and an active participant of numerous clinical trials including studies involving intraoperative radiation, neoadjuvant endocrine trials, genomic testing, and cryoablation. She serves as an editorial board member, peer-reviewer, and research committee member of various endeavors. In her free time, she treasures time with her family, traveling, scuba diving, and the great outdoors.
