Dr. Ian S. Soriano, MD, FACS is board-certified in general surgery and specializes in gastrointestinal and bariatric surgery with a focus on minimally invasive techniques, including robotic surgery. He is currently Associate Professor of Surgery and Director of Robotic Surgery, Department of Surgery, at the University of California - San Francisco. Dr. Soriano completed a combined undergrad and medical school program at the University of the Philippines. He trained in general surgery at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York and Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia. After completing a fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at the Cleveland Clinic in Florida, he joined Temple University as Assistant Professor of Surgery and subsequently appointed Associate Director of Bariatric Surgery. Prior to joining UCSF, he was Chief of Gastrointestinal Surgery at Pennsylvania Hospital and Associate Professor of Clinical Surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania Health System. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and awarded Honorary Fellow of both the Philippine College of Surgeons and Philippine Association of Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgeons. He is on the editorial board of SOARD and JGIS and serves on numerous committees of SAGES, ASMBS, AHS and SSE. He has written book chapters, authored papers, given lectures and trained other surgeons in bariatric and gastrointestinal surgery in both robotic and laparoscopic techniques.
