Biography

I am an academic general surgeon specializing in the care of acutely ill patients, including trauma, burns and acute general surgery. My research interest is primarily (but not exclusively!) the care of severely burned and injured patients. I am very invested in educating the next generation of surgeons; I also teach methods to maintain physician wellness and cope with burnout, and am on the Ethics Committees of the American College of Surgeons and the American Burn Association. I serve as the Peter C. Canizaro Chair of the Department of Surgery at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center, and the Medical Director of the John. A. Griswold Level 1 Trauma Center in Lubbock TX.
