Biography

Dr. Mayur B. Patel is an Associate Professor with Tenure in the Department of Surgery, Division of Acute Care Surgery (Trauma, Burns, Emergency General Surgery, & Surgical Critical Care) at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. At the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center, Tennessee Valley Healthcare System (TVHS), he also serves as Deputy Chief of Surgical Services (twelve subspecialty services, spanning two hospitals, >400 faculty, fellows, & trainees), Site Program Director, & Division/Section Chief of General Surgery. Dr. Patel has three active Board Certificates in General Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, and Neurocritical Care. He serves the ACS in its Tennessee Chapter, the Future Trauma Leader program, Committee on Trauma (COT), Scholarships Committee, Young Fellows Association, and the 2018 ACS Traveling Fellowship to Australia and New Zealand. He is a contributing member of EAST and has served its Board of Directors. He also is an active member of the Association for Academic Surgeons (AAS), Society for University Surgeons (SUS), Association for VA Surgeons (AVAS), American Association for the Surgery of Trauma (AAST), American Delirium Society (ADS), and Society of Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Patel has attracted >$20M in research funding (R01 GM120484, R01 AG058639, I01 RX002992, T32 GM135094), actively mentors future academicians, and has published >100 articles.
