Biography

Dr. Rao is current the Chief of Breast Surgery at New York Presbyterian/Columbia University Medical Center. Dr. Rao received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1995, and went on to graduate from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine in 1999. She completed her residency in general surgery at Baystate Medical Center - The Western Campus of Tufts University in Springfield, Massachusetts in 2004. In 2005, Dr. Rao completed a Breast Surgical Oncology Fellowship at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. She joined the faculty at UT Southwestern Medical Center at Dallas in August of 2005 as an Assistant Professor of surgery in the Division of Surgical Oncology. Her clinical interests include the treatment of locally advanced and metastatic breast cancer, as well as innovations in surgical techniques for the treatment of breast cancer. Her research interests involve exploring ethnic differences in breast cancer, as well as evaluating the reconstructive decisions made by women.
