Dr. Dowdy is Professor of Gynecologic Surgery at Mayo Clinic where he serves as Division Chair of Gynecologic Oncology, Department Vice-chair, and Quality Chair for the House of Surgery. He received a BA in English from Cornell University in 1993 and completed medical school at Georgetown University in 1997. Residency training in Obstetrics and Gynecology and fellowship training in Gynecologic Oncolgy was completed at Mayo Clinic from 1997 to 2004. He completed post-fellowship training in laparoscopic surgery in 2005. Dr. Dowdy specializes in the surgical management of gynecologic cancers and complex benign disease. Special clinical and research emphasis includes endometrial cancer, minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopic, robotic approaches), aggressive surgical cytoreduction (debulking) of ovarian cancer, and quality improvement to reduce complications and improve quality of life for patients with gynecologic malignancies.
