Prof Dr Jafri practices in an academic University Institution,the Hospital University Sains Malaysia which is based in Kubang Kerian,Kota Bharu,Kelantan,Malaysia.The Center for Neuroscience Services and Research has both Neurology,Neurosurgery,Psychiatry,Psychology,Neurorehabilitation,Neuro-Anesthesia and Applied,Clinical and Fundamental Neurosciences programmes under it's wing.The services offered are numerous from spine surgery and rehabilitation,deep brain stimulation,epilepsy surgery to surgery for neuropathic and other pain syndromes.We are are a training center for the Masters of Surgery(Neurosurgery) a 2+4 year training course with entrance and exit examinations with a research component that is reported as a dissertation.The amount of major neurosurgical work done per year is approximate 1,100 patients because we are a catchment area for 4.5 million people from 4 states(Kelantan,Trengganu,North Pahang and east Kedah/Perak) We have a complete Radiosurgery X-Knife services for head and spine tumors and intraoperative brachytherapy and tumor bed irradiation for malignant brain tumors.Chemotherapy is available especially for poor patients via the Social Services Department and MAKNA.The microscope system from Zeiss allows us to evacuate tumors using both Gliolan dye with intra/perioperative neurophysiological monitoring.This is followed by histopathological diagnosis and intraoperatively radiotherapy in the same setting. The Center has access to many labs including a 128 channel EEG,functional 3 Tesla MRI as well as a Magnetoencephalography machine to assist in epilepsy surgery and cognitive neurosciences.Endoscopic pituitary and skull base operations are offered to the patients with Image Guided surgery. Artificial Disc are also placed in our patients when indicated.PLIF procedures are done together with Intraoperative monitoring for spondylolithesis.We are also active in research both in-vivo and in-vitro both in spine,pherpheral nerve and in neurooncology since 2001.
