Biography

Tari A. King, M.D. is the newly appointed Chief of Breast Surgery at the Dana Farber/Brigham and Women’s Cancer Center and the Associate Division Chief for Breast Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She received her MD degree in 1996 from the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center, completed surgical residency at the Ochsner Clinic, in New Orleans in 2001, and a 2-year breast surgery fellowship at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in 2003. She joins the Department of Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital after having spent 12 years on the faculty at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSKCC) where she maintained an active clinical practice devoted to the diagnosis and surgical treatment of breast cancer and led the translational research activities of the breast service, ultimately achieving the title of Deputy Chief and Director of Research for the Breast Service in 2014. During her time at MSKCC, Dr. King was the incumbent of Jeanne A. Petrek Junior Faculty Chair (2008-2013) and she received several awards to support her work on the molecular genetics of lobular carcinoma in situ, including the SSO Clinical Investigator Award in Breast Cancer Research (2008), a Career Catalyst Award (2009) and an Investigator Initiated Research Award (2012) from the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Foundation. She is also the PI of a multi-institutional prospective trial investigating the role of surgery in Stage IV breast cancer sponsored by the Translational Breast Cancer Research Consortium (TBCRC) and the co-chair of the Local-Regional Working Group in the TBCRC. She served as chair of the scientific program committee for the 2013 Society of Surgical Oncology Annual Meeting and currently serves as Councilor-at-Large on the SSO Executive Council.
