Biography

Dr. Malaspina tries to treat each patient the way he would want a member of his family treated. He approaches patients with genuine compassion and respect, wants them to feel comfortable with him, and explains matters in an understandable way. Dr. Malaspina has two undergraduate degrees from The Pennsylvania State University. He pursued post-baccalaureate pre-med studies at the University of Pittsburgh before attending Temple University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pa. He has progressed "through the ranks" of medicine, having been an orderly in college, an EMT, Paramedic, and surgical Physician Assistant before medical school. His practice includes the traditional spectrum of general surgery: G.I., breast, endocrine and trauma surgery, with a particular interest in new surgical technologies. He chose Temple University Hospital for his five year categorical surgery residency because it is one of the nation's busiest trauma centers, with a long tradition of clinical excellence in surgical education, and remains indebted to his mentors there. Since being recruited to Hamot Medical Center in Erie, PA, Dr. Malaspina has practiced general and trauma surgery, participating in teaching and new program development.
