I am the chief of Surgery at Cambridge Health Alliance- Providing personalized care for patients in Boston, Cambridge, Sommerville, Everett, Malden and Chelsea Area in MA. My expertise is laparoscopic and robotic surgery for hernia repair, Surgical treatment of GERD reflux), stomach surgery, Colon surgery, Hernia and gallbladder surgery for cancer and other conditions. My main area of focus is Bariatric ( weight loss) surgery and utilizing minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic technology.Prior to this position I lead one of the most experienced Bariatric Surgery program in New England with a rich tradition of taking care of patients over 30 years. At the Miriam Hospital, with a wonderful team around me, I have helped develop the advancement laparoscopic and robotic surgery in general surgery for the benefit of our patients in Rhode Island and Massachusetts. Bariatric and Metabolic surgery is provided at The Miriam Hospital's MBSAQIP accredited center that takes care of patients struggling with obesity and its complications such as diabetes with surgeries such as Laparoscopic Gastric Bypass, Gastric Sleeve operations and DS, SADI and endoscopic surgeries. Academically, I am very involved in teaching and training residents and medical students at Harvard Medical School and also as an adjunct Professorship at Brown University. I also volunteer my time to educate surgeons in Sri Lanka, Hungary and China. My research includes social factors affecting surgical outcome, effects of exercise and patient lifestyle modifications and success of surgery as well as surgical outcomes in minimally invasive surgery.
