Brian Robert Kann, MD FACS

Brian R. Kann, MD is the Chairman of the Department of Colon and Rectal Surgery and Surgeon-in-Chief at Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans, LA. He received his medical degree from Hahnemann University (now Drexel University College of Medicine) in Philadelphia, PA, following which he completed his general surgery residency at UMDNJ/Robert Wood Johnson Medical School/Cooper University Hospital in Camden, NJ. He then completed his residency in colon and rectal Surgery at the Ochsner Clinic in New Orleans, LA. Following his training, he returned to Cooper University Hospital where he served as Program Director of the General Surgery Residency Program for several years before transitioning to the University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia, PA, where he was Program Director for the Colon & Rectal Surgery Residency Program and Chief of Colon and Rectal Surgery at Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. In 2015, he returned to New Orleans to join the Department of Colon & Rectal Surgery at Ochsner Medical Center and assumed the role of Chairman in 2023. He is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at the University of Queensland-Ochsner Clinical School as well as at the Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine. He is a Member-at-Large on the Executive Council of the American Society of Colon & Rectal Surgeons, a Senior Examiner for the American Board of Colon & Rectal Surgery, and a member of the Video-Based Education Committee of the American College of Surgeons.
