Charles M. Friel, MD FACS

I obtained MD/PhD from Beijing University Medical School. After residency in General Surgery and fellowship in Surgical Critical Care at the University of Virginia. I was recruited to the Department of Surgery at the University of Virginia in 2012, specialized in Acute Care Surgery, Trauma and Surgical Critical Care. I have spent 30% of my time in basic research and have obtained NIH R01 grant support. My research has been focused on inflammatory responses in myocardial ischemia/reperfusion injury and shock (septic and hemorrhagic). I have published more than 70 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
