Biography

Dr. Burnetta Herron is a board-certified surgeon with over 20 years of experience in General Surgery. She practices in Chicago at both Mt. Sinai and Holy Cross Hospitals. She serves as the Director of Surgical Health Equity and Community Health Integration at Sinai Chicago. She graduated from the University of Miami with a B.S. in Biology, then attended the University of Texas Medical Branch where she obtained her M.D. She completed her General Surgery residency at Loyola University of Chicago- Stritch School of Medicine. Upon completing residency, she worked as a Trauma, General, and Bariatric surgeon for a few years prior to transitioning her focus to General and Breast Surgery. Dr. Herron is a passionate advocate of patient-centered care and improving health disparities within the community. She is focused on actioning upon these disparities to improve the safety and surgical outcomes for vulnerable populations. She enjoys teaching and mentoring students and residents, community outreach and education. In addition to her practice Dr. Herron is the mother of two and enjoys the challenges and rewards of raising a family while gardening and nurturing plants, especially Orchids!! in between.
