Biography

Dr Ward is the founding surgeon and still practices with Novant Health Orthopedics & Sports Medicine, WS.. He previously was Chairman of Orthopaedics and Service Line Chief for the Guthrie Healthcare System, including Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre PA and affiliated hospitals. He was a Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at Wake Forest University in Winston Salem, NC, where he practiced for over 22 years. To date he has performed over 12,000 orthopedic surgeries, including over 6000 orthopaedic tumor related operations and over 3000 joint replacement surgeries. His primary practice interests are musculoskeletal tumors of bone and soft tissue of all types, and joint replacement surgeries of the hip and knee, with a special interest in robotically assisted unicompartmental (partial) and total knee replacements. Appointments can be scheduled via 336-893-2417. He has performed patient-related, applied research for the entirety of his professional career, having published approximately 100 scientific articles in the medical literature and has presented his research locally, nationally and internationally. He is a Past President of the North American Musculoskeletal Tumor Society and served on the Medical Board of Trustees of the Musculoskeletal Transplant Foundation for approximately 20 years. He has collaborated with industry on the design of bone replacing prostheses, including tumor prosthesis systems and total knee replacements. Dr Ward has also been actively involved in his community and has been recognized for his leadership skills, having previously been elected Chairman of the Board of Southern Community Bank and having served on the board of a commercial bank, Capital Bank, NA and its parent organization, Capital Bank Financial Corporation. He also earned a Master's degree in Health Care Administration in 2014. He currently sees patients in the office two days a week and operates three days a week, treating each and every patient as a unique individual.
