Biography

My practice is dedicated to general surgery and oncologic surgery including most areas covered by general surgery including thyroid, and parathyroids and breast diseases. I deal with most aspects of gastrointestinal surgery including surgery on the esophagus, stomach, small bowel and colon as well as surgery of the gallbladder and biliary tract. In the past years general surgery has shifted to minimally invasive surgery. I am happy to say that I have been involved in developing programs in my hospital from minimally invasive breast biopsies to sentinel node procedures for breast cancer management. My practice involves a substantial amount of time devoted to advanced laparoscopic procedures. These include laparoscopic surgery for gastroesophageal reflux; laparoscopic surgery for disorders of spleen; laparoscopic surgery for ventral hernias and during the past 4 years with laparoscopic surgery of the colon. Development of these techniques in Puerto Rico has been very gratifying as they have had a positive impact on patient management. This will be my 23rd year in practice and am very happy with working in central Puerto Rico . Over the past 3years I have incorporated Flexible Gastrointestinal Endoscopy to my practice. This includes screening for colorectal cancer, and preop workup for patients with gastroesophageal conditions and gastroesophageal reflux disease.
