Robert Sheridan is the assistant chief of staff and medical director of the burn service at the Boston Shriners Hospitals for Children. He graduated Summa Cum Laude, Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha from Boston University’s six year medical program. He attended school with a military scholarship, completed training in general surgery at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, and served as a general surgeon in Europe, Central America and Colorado. He then trained at the Army Institute of Surgical Research (the Army Burn Unit) in San Antonio. He served in Landstuhl Germany as triage officer in support of Operation Desert Storm. Upon completion of his active duty military obligation, he left the Institute of Surgical Research, transitioned into the Army Reserve, and joined the Massachusetts General Hospital Burn and Trauma Services and Boston Shriners Hospitals for Children. His Army Reserve assignments have included humanitarian surgical work in Indonesia, Haiti, and Central America as well as combat tours with Forward Surgical Teams in Afghanistan. Dr. Sheridan is certified in surgery and in surgical critical care and is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. He has authored more than 200 publications and two books on burn and trauma care. He is past president of the American Burn Association and Professor of Surgery at the Harvard Medical School.
